Furnace Not Running? When To Replace It

Posted on: 12 December 2022

Your furnace can break down at any given moment, especially if you haven't given any thought or time to preventative maintenance to your furnace. If you aren't maintaining your furnace properly, it will break down long before its life span ends. Your furnace can last for several years, or even more than a decade, but without proper care, it will break down possibly multiple times before the end of its life. If your furnace has broken down, you may be considering replacing it. Read on for some signs that may tell you it's time to replace your furnace.

When You've Had Expensive Breakdowns

If you've had multiple expensive breakdowns occur to your furnace, you should consider having it replaced altogether rather than having it repaired again. The cost of the repairs to your furnace may exceed the cost of a new furnace, especially if the breakdowns are frequent and costly repairs. The cost to have a repairman come to your home can also add up, and these extra fees can eventually weigh on your wallet. It may be best to have your furnace replaced.

You're At The End Of Your Furnace's Life Span

If you have an older furnace, and it's towards the end of its life span, you may want to consider having it replaced. Repairing it can be costly, especially for an older furnace because the parts may be scarce, and finding someone that can work on your particular furnace model may be difficult to find. You should consider replacing your furnace rather than repairing it to save you on those costly repairs, and the chances of having another breakdown may be high.

Your Furnace Is Not Energy Efficient

If your furnace has broken down and it isn't an energy-efficient model, you may want to consider having it replaced to save you money when you do run your furnace. A non-energy-efficient model can be costly to run because it may be running too often in an effort to keep up with heating your home, or it may simply be costing you money in wasted energy. This money you spend on a new furnace could actually save you money in the long run.

If your furnace has stopped running, you could repair it, or it may be time to have it replaced. Consult a professional HVAC contractor to discuss what is best for your furnace and for the money in the long run. If it's time to have it replaced, you should use a professional to have it installed correctly.

Summer is Upon Us – Is Your AC Working?

Hi. My name is Laurie Waters. The HVAC contractor was just out at our house last week and did I ever get a lesson from him. You see, we had a warm spell hit and I went to turn our air conditioning on for the first time since last summer. Much to my dismay, it wasn’t working. All I got was a blast of warm air. The fan was bringing the outdoor heat inside. Thank goodness it wasn’t anything major. My unit needed Freon. While he was here, the contractor taught me how to do some routine maintenance around my unit, vents, and filters. I’m going to share this information with you. I hope you find it to be useful.
