The Air Conditioning Problems That Can Be Prevented With Simple Cleaning Maintenance

Posted on: 27 April 2017

Dirty AC components are the main cause of problems with HVAC systems. The filter is not the only part of cleaning maintenance that you have to worry about when it comes to your AC; you will also want to clean vents, ducts, and the condensing coils. Doing this maintenance is essential to avoid problems when you need your AC most. Here are some of the most important cleaning tasks that need to be done to prevent AC failure this summer:

1. Cleaning the Ducts for Better Performance and Eliminate Foul Odors

The ducts of your AC system collect a lot of dust and dirty throughout the year. As dust collects in ducts, the moisture causes foul smelling odors, which can be an unpleasant addition to your home. Odors may be unbearable if an animal gets in ducts and dies. Having your ducts cleaned will help eliminate any foul odors that come through the air conditioning, as well as help make your cooling more efficient and the air inside your home clean.

2. Cleaning the AC Condensing Coil to Prevent Problems with The Compressor

Condensing coils are the part of your AC that compressed cooling gas is pumped through by a compressor. These coils may become dirty due to dust and debris. Have an HVAC service clean the coils to ensure you do not have problems with freezing and the system not cooling your home. The freezing due to dirty coils may even cause the compressor motor to be damaged when it is overworked while trying to cool your home.

3. Prevent Odors by Cleaning the Outdoor Unit and Other Components That Collect Dust

Odors may also be present in your home when moisture and dirt collect on the outside unit. Throughout the year, you will want to make sure the unit is clean and free of debris from trees and other causes. If you winterize your AC unit, make sure to use a cover that allows air to circulate. Completely covering the unit may lead to problems with the unit growing mold and mildew that can cause odors. Regularly cleaning the unit and doing it in spring before hot weather will help to prevent problems with moisture and mildew that cause the odors.

These are some of the most important maintenance tasks that need to be done to prevent problems with your AC. Contact an HVAC service to help with some of these tasks for the AC of your home. For more information, contact companies like Advanced Air Quality Services.

Summer is Upon Us – Is Your AC Working?

Hi. My name is Laurie Waters. The HVAC contractor was just out at our house last week and did I ever get a lesson from him. You see, we had a warm spell hit and I went to turn our air conditioning on for the first time since last summer. Much to my dismay, it wasn’t working. All I got was a blast of warm air. The fan was bringing the outdoor heat inside. Thank goodness it wasn’t anything major. My unit needed Freon. While he was here, the contractor taught me how to do some routine maintenance around my unit, vents, and filters. I’m going to share this information with you. I hope you find it to be useful.
