3 Signs It Is Time To Get Your Home's AC System Serviced

Posted on: 10 May 2021

Keeping up with proper maintenance is an important part of ensuring your home's air conditioning system keeps your home cool all summer long. While most residential air conditioning contractors will recommend that you schedule a maintenance appointment once a year in order to keep your air conditioner in tip-top shape, it may be necessary to have your AC system serviced sooner if you are experiencing any of these warning signs. These signs alert you to minor issues within your air conditioning system that can result in more serious problems if not taken care of right away.

Musty Or Stale Odors Coming From AC Vents

People often blame high humidity levels for musty or stale smells coming from their air conditioning vents. However, your air conditioner should actually work to remove some of the humidity from your home and should not produce bad odors. If these scents are coming from your vents, it is time to get your air conditioner serviced. This is because even a faint odor coming from your vents can be an indication of mold or mildew growing either inside your AC unit or inside your vents. These spores can become airborne when you turn on your air conditioner and can potentially make you or your family sick. As such, you should never put off calling a residential air conditioning service if you smell unpleasant odors coming from your AC vents.

Uneven Air Distribution

Another indication that your home's air conditioning unit is in need of servicing is an uneven distribution of cold air. Not only does uneven air distribution make it difficult to maintain a comfortable environment within your home, but it can also be an indication of dust and debris built up inside the ventilation portion of your cooling system. A failure to have this debris removed can ultimately cause your air conditioning coils to freeze over as cold air becomes trapped inside the condenser.

Reduced Air Flow

If you notice that your air conditioner is not blowing as hard as it once did, this can be a sign of ice buildup. This buildup can cause damage to your air conditioning system and ultimately result in the system failing to produce any cold air until repairs are made. To prevent this type of full system failure, it is important that you contact an air conditioning service to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Summer is Upon Us – Is Your AC Working?

Hi. My name is Laurie Waters. The HVAC contractor was just out at our house last week and did I ever get a lesson from him. You see, we had a warm spell hit and I went to turn our air conditioning on for the first time since last summer. Much to my dismay, it wasn’t working. All I got was a blast of warm air. The fan was bringing the outdoor heat inside. Thank goodness it wasn’t anything major. My unit needed Freon. While he was here, the contractor taught me how to do some routine maintenance around my unit, vents, and filters. I’m going to share this information with you. I hope you find it to be useful.
